Echocardiography
Echocardiograms in Central Utah
An echocardiogram is an
ultrasound that creates a real-time image of the heart. Echocardiograms assess the
general strength of the heart, evaluating the size, thickness, and rhythm
of heartbeats. Your doctor may recommend this test to check for heart
disease, abnormalities, or just receive an update on your heart’s
current condition.
Overview of Echocardiograms
Echocardiography is completely safe and does not have any side effects.
There is no exposure to radiation and the test is usually done in an outpatient
setting so you can return home the same day. During the test, patients
lie face up on a table while a technician places electrodes on the chest.
The technician will then place gel on the chest and scan the area with
the electrocardiogram device. A live stream feed of the heart created
by soundwaves will then be displayed on a nearby monitor.
The test is completely painless and after your doctor has reviewed the
results they should be able to give you an update on your heart’s
condition.
